Buzzing

Sunday - Coffee and Cake
weekly mommy babble and handmade goings on...

Buzzing... Ok... Woo!... Boy have I been a busy bunny, and I wish that the busy activity was as soft and fuzzy as my hats but I'm probably more flopsy and fuzzy right now. I have only really just reflected on it all which is unusual for me as I'm normally very apt at taking in the days events when my children are in bed in the evenings. I have to give a big thankyou to the stupendous amounts of coffee I have devoured this week, for which I doubt I would be sitting her typing to you all if I'd have gone without lol... It's not just been work really but there have been some huuuuuuuuuge changes which mean that the big dynamics of next year are going to happen sooner like moving, then despite our initial confidence we are going to home school our son part-time whilst he attends mainstream school when he's 4 (long story), then there's been just a few personal things like me bringing in a new exercise routine to get out of my procrastinating rut ("i will excercise!!!... tomorrow!"... gets kinda old after months of putting it off LOL), trying to decide which photos to take along to my craft show (i can't use them all... darn it), making new hat designs and of course completing orders. I think I'm loving the fact that I've squeezed in new designs into my biggest achievement of the week as I am GUTTED that tonnes of ideas I had for Halloween totally fell through over the weeks. I had written them all out in a notepad and had planned a whole bunch of new headbands and a few hats to put up a couple of weeks ago but so far they are still just a few words on a piece of paper, so I am now thinking ahead to Christmas! I will be listing some of this weeks bits and bobs in the morning (it's the early hours on Sunday morning for me and I need sleep). Fingers crossed that I have a tonne more by next weekend, in addition to less limp muscles with all the exercise I'm going to get (ho hum!) and maybe if I'm really good I can avoid coffee for a while lol! And as for the kids, gosh I am actually relaxing a little more this week as my daughter is now actively playing without getting stroppy for slightly longer periods now, and to my son she is a whole new child lol! He is such a dear playing with her and trying to show her how to make her baby toys work, it's stretching my 20 minute break to myself to about 30 mins now... I say break yet I mean hands free... Hey if it means a hot cup of tea instead of lukewarm I'm game lol! I love that she can sit with him now on her own and dive into a pile of soft toys and actually giggle about it! It's amazing that this much time has passed already. I can still hear my bellowing echoing around the birth center the day I had her... ahhh memories. I could do it all again lol!

Right! Bed Time! I will be about in the morning folks! Take care :)

Dreaming of Purls

Sunday - Coffee and Cake
weekly mommy babble and handmade goings on...

Dreaming of Purls... I have an announcement to make before I share my post for today, and that is of the blog's 'First Giveaway' winner! Congratulations to Beth Willis of "The Willis Family Blog!". You have won yourself a custom made adorable pom pom hat like the one shown on the left. I will be processing your specific details soon as you already know :) So wow I can't believe the first one is all over! And so many of you entered too it was an amazing start to what I hope will be a great future for the giveaway feature :) There is currently ANOTHER giveaway running that began yesterday and is going to run until the 30th of this month so if you would like the opportunity to give it a go you can visit my second blog giveaway via the link :) I wanted to also say if people could PLEASE STOP entering the first giveaway! Some of you have 0_o And I have tried to close the comments since, but it looks like they are still open on my end... very new to that side of blog post control so you'll have to bare with me, but there is a "closed" notice as the top of the first giveaway post, although it seems a few people missed it... So I'll work out how to close the comments as fast as my little fingers can scour a page and hopefully prevent any confusion asap!

Anyway! I have got to say sooooooooooo many people out there seem to love my crochet flopsy bunny hat which has been translated into my sales count in my store... I have made so many in loads of different colors now for everyone that has ordered! I don't remember being as busy as I am currently for a long time regarding work, and I thought my photography business kept me on my toes. It's been wonderful but I have been knitting and crocheting so much that I'm even dreaming about it LOL! It's must be something to do with being a SAHM... my body is accustomed to poopy nappies, nursery rhymes and toddler tantrums and the thought of regular work has over excited my brain LOL! I'm having the best time though as it's something I love to do and I get so much satisfaction knowing that some of my snuggly creations are keeping little baby bonces warm somewhere in the world. I look forward to merging Babamoon into my prospective out of home business in portraiture. But before I can begin writing up a new webpage (which is my next task) for that, I must must must complete my orders and hope that a free day comes my way to get a move on with it. Time management is becoming my forté, and I am really feeling the sense of accomplishment that comes with it.

My partner has been recently gushing about how proud he is of me and I am so glad to feel like I can finally work on a plan that'll take care of the kids future. My little boy is proving each day to be more of a little man by very intelligently working out the things going on around him and being able to apply his own logic or helpful actions to keep the household moving. Like on my birthday he knew that I was getting ready for my first proper (kid free) evening out with my partner for a few years and he kept saying things like "You have to have a nice bath mommy, I want to mop the floor to help"... bless him! Each day he also insists on doing little things to help his baby sister like trying to teach her all the baby signing he learned at her age, singing songs to her and sharing his toys. For a child that has recently turned 3 I am so proud of his willingness to express such love for his family in such an intelligent way. He can be one cheeky monkey sometimes but what 3 year old isn't? I am just so chuffed that he isn't objecting to a lot of the changes that have come with having a new baby at home and seems to be just sailing along with it comfortably and enthusiastically. His efforts do make my days a little easier as I am just full on with everything including all of my mom duties, breastfeeding and donating milk to my local milk bank for the preemies. My daughter is now kinda able to sit up with a little less support each day which has been brilliant for her exploration of play, and has made life a lot more interesting at home. It frees up my hands a bit as well to be able to work on orders whilst supervising their play (or schooling for my son) time instead of normally having to be the armchair! It'll be interesting to see how this week progresses as she seems to be going through a spurt of changes. I envision that one day I'll probably be chasing her across the floor padding out all the corners so I'm probably in the honeymoon period right now lol!

Anyways I'd better be off to get on with the day. Thanks for reading and I'll be back for another ramble next week :)

Nocturnal

weekly musings, articles and mostly babble...

Nocturnal is what I am right now! At least it kind of feels that way. I have been struggling to sleep for the past 4-5 days due to the other half working nights and myself having both day AND night duty with the kids. It hasn't been too bad with the baby, because at least I am pretty much used to waking up for night feeds/cuddles/playtime as that's what babies do. But my son, who normally would sleep through has decided to be Mr. Naughty and challenge my decreasing ability to function by jumping all over the bed in the wee hours of the morning and generally playing up. So as you can imagine the lack of sleep has doubled or has virtually been total the last few days. Can't say I'm too impressed, but at least my ability in the day time to do all my usual duties hasn't flagged. So in all this extra awake time I have been working on new photos, my new store BabaMoon.etsy.com (which is now live! Please click on the photos to visit the listings), knitting the little monkey some puppets as Christmas presents, and making new patterns for BabaMoon items too.

It has been nice being able to find the time to knit casually for a while. Even though some of it has been work related, it has certainly felt less like work this week than it has done for a while lol! It's amazing the random things you appreciate when you have kids and they begrudgingly give you 5 minutes and no more to yourself lol! Like even my weekly grocery shopping trips to my local Sainsburys is absolute heaven because I make sure I go on my own, and take full advantage of Classic.fm on the way AND the biggest Hobbycraft store I have ever seen on route. ^_^ It's only an hour or two. And it's just shopping for food... and maybe the odd skein of yarn! But in terms of free time, that's what I get and it's wonderful LOL! But you know, in my frazzled brain today as much as I could probably do with an entire day just relaxing, getting my back sorted at a chiropractors (note to self: don't do head stands with toddlers until WAY after giving birth), and maybe even visiting a spa or something which I have always wanted to do, I absolutely love my life and my kids. They are a joy and I feel privilaged to have them :)

Speaking of joy, my daughter is now over 2 months old (time flies!) and really starting to show her personality now. And my goodness she smiles a lot! I remember my boy being very happy and smiley as a baby but she is just a little angel! She seems on top of the world all the time, even through my son's wonderous tantrums! Even I can't top that LOL! I find it so special, and try my hardest to encourage it by always playing and chatting with her when she flashes a gummy grin. Even if she's in discomfort she'll just smile through it all. It's really nice to think that through all the terrible 3's behaviour with my son that she obviously feels content and very much loved. We are spending a lot of time right now trying to calm Mr. down as he's just at that AGE which everyone seems to cower at when we tell them how old he is LOL. I'm glad that she must feel that she's getting a fair share of attention as I do devote so much time to them both, yet when the day passes you by you wonder where the time goes and question if you do manage to achieve as much as you'd like to. So for this I'm glad :) It's nice to think you're making someone happy :)

Memories

Sunday - Coffee and Cake
weekly musings, articles and mostly babble...

#Amemoryyoucantforget is currently a trending topic on Twitter and has left me inspired for this post. Especially as my entire week so far has literally been spent collecting memories of my children on my DSLR. I can be quite crazy when it comes to my camera. We are permanently glued at the eye/eye piece? Lol! I love my camera yet until now I've only just noticed that for a change I have recently been a lot more purposeful with my kiddy photograph taking. I think it's because of my son who is the equivalent of Hammy the squirrel on soda. He just doesn't keep still for even a fraction of a second, so I end up taking as many photos as I can in the space of minutes just to achieve at least one good picture lol! It's bizarre as I take so much care with my nature photography, even when the winds blowing I will have the patience of a true artist and will remain for as long as i can. I do take many images even then to be honest. I think a lot of photographers do as it's always good to be able to find the images you want in a selection. You never know when what you think is the perfect picture, has actually been bettered by the one taken afterwards. I don't know, maybe I'm more concious of it with my kids as it does seem like much harder work photographing moving targets! Lol! Yet... this week I've been able to achieve more with purpose and less work! Hurrah!

Photographing my daughter for me has been special for obvious reasons, but it's also been of a challenge to try and take a step backward to think about the photo's from a business point of view. I want to get myself out there by the end of the year taking portraits as a business, and although I know I can capture good photo's and work well in post production I have never actually tried to work on a planned out schedule. If I were to go into people's homes I would have to consider that a: their kids are THEIR kids and not mine. I will need the patience of a saint to make a successful shoot in a short space of time. b: TIME! I will have 2 hours at most for a baby to try and work something successful so I need to be certain of how to manage that time as I go along, taking into account that babies are unpredicatable and will more than likely need to be handled frequently by the parents for soothing! Then c: the business plan outside of the shoot, besides getting paid for my time, I will need to look at prices for prints, images on disk, web slideshows etc. OK one more d: legalities... ie: insurance etc... the biggest gripe for me at the mo!

This stuff is forever on my mind so one of the days this week I tried (with my son jumping on my back... fun...) to treat the situation with a shoot for my daughter from this perspective. Concentrating on the first two concerns primarily I tried to treat the situation objectively and professionally which suprisingly lead my kids to behaving wonderfully for me. Maybe it was confidence in asserting myself as a business person/loving mother that did it, but it's the best they've behaved for me whilst capturing shots which allowed me to assess my environment a lot better and take better pictures. Not only that but this has worked wonders for my post production of this weeks selection of images and my first batch a couple of months ago. Being clearer in my head has allowed me to look at my images more closely and therefore produce better edited images. Great stuff if you ask me! Of course it'll be handy in the long run working with strangers, which was the whole point of me giving a bit of role play a go! So in all of that I have captured the sweetest pictures of my daughter ever, and in the process have beautiful memories to cherish forever that will help me with my business. Hopefully for her in the future it will show that mommy loves her very much and that we both had a wonderful time gathering beautiful moments to always remember. I think I have finally managed to set myself the groundwork for my portrait buisness as I think this is exactly what all moms will want to achieve out of their childrens photoshoots.

Bang! Firstly I want to give a big big BIG thankyou to sellers yourstrulydear and HIPpadBaby whom have this week been extremely patient through my unfortunate computer problems when they have both needed some form of input from me for various things. As you know from yesterday, HIPpadBaby had finally received her blog interview! I was worried it wouldn't happen for a lot longer but I'm glad it was only just a day lost and no more. Then yourstrulydear having received my answers to her own interview questionnaire on Tuesday was left a bit confused when finding my store in vacation mode the same day. I literally had no choice but to abandon Etsy and my blog... well... everything infact because I had destroyed my second computer this month! I say mine, but I mean my partners LOL...

After I had completed yourtrulydear's interview I was enjoying my lunch and break from my sleepy children watching a program on 4oD when BANG... everything just went off. I thought that maybe it had over heated because earlier in the morning my partner and I could smell a slight burning going on, and over heating normally just needs a bit of time to settle down before being able to run again. So I waited for a while and tried switching the computer back on, and of course nothing happened. After freaking out a bit (my daughters new photos had only recently been uploaded eek!), I resigned to the fact that I only had the mobile internet to work with for however long, and had to start contacting people to let them know what had happened.

Luckily for us a work friend of my partner knew some excellent technicians which fixed the computer on Friday at a cost which wasn't as huge as I had imagined and Saturday meant that I could return and pick up where I left off. But what an ordeal! I was mostly frightened of losing my baby girls new pictures as I had JUST started deleting them off of the camera when this happened. Everything else fortunately was backed up. But I'm glad I dont have to start again like I had to when I lost my own PC earlier this month when the effects of the Norton Registry Cleaner wrecked it to the point of no return.

So big thanks again to HIPpadBaby and yourstrulydear for putting up with my troubles!

So what did I do with my free time this week? Well! I honestly had NO idea just how busy I make myself between my kids, the housework AND my alter ego of moonangelnay online. The latter being so much of my persona that without it I actually became aware of both time and space like I had been reborn LOL. Seriously! It was a wake up call. I had NO idea what day of the week it was as my blog normally does the job of informing me, I actually twiddled my thumbs some of the time, and I got to do more housework than ever in any one day. How rubbish am I? lol! In a good way I mean ;) I am one busy bee as some in the handmade community always comment about. And I enjoy being busy as it's just part of my nature, the same way I love feeling like I can be helpful to people. I can quite easily do the amount I do plus have a normal family life without feeling like I'm burning out because there isn't really a need for me to worry about things like partying, lounging around or travelling for example. Having 2 young kids makes those things difficult anyway! So rather than sit around in my free time, I like to devote it to my photography, knitting, painting and the handmade community. Yet despite losing the ability to involve myself with the latter properly for a few days, I found it was nice having a little break from the screen. I didn't get much knitting done as the kids made sure of that lol! And I got to visit my dad in Wales without needing to be paranoid about promoting things yet brought back my son and his new found family of head lice in the process (fun... urgggh). It was the usual kind of crazy stuff to happen when you know you have a bit more time to do things, yet I enjoyed it! The lice are dead, I have managed to start a new project and the PC is back to life. It can only get better! :D
